Hey Everyone!
Its been a while since our last article, but don’t worry, we have a flurry of new articles dropping over the next couple of weeks! Lots has been happening, and we have a lot to cover but in this article we are going to talk about game development, and shifting to some new tech options within Unreal Engine 5.2!
TL:DR FF4 discusses game development and the shift to new tech options within Unreal Engine 5.2. Highlights the new technologies of Nanite and Lumen in Unreal Engine 5.2 and their benefits to game developers. The use of Nanite and Lumen in game development leading to improved graphics quality, faster iteration times, and reduced development costs. The use of Nanite and Lumen will result in the creation of highly detailed character models and even better maps for Flight Force 4. The implementation will also result in increased quality and lower system requirements, allowing more people to access the game. Implementation will pause current build progress short term but greatly improve build progress long term.
So lets get into it!
As you might be aware Flight Force 4 is being built in Unreal Engine 5 by the talented Tech 3 Studios and you may have also downloaded our game and played this! Unreal Engine 5 is the undisputed best engine available right now for gaming and with the technology we will cover in this article, we are going to see some huge traditional games shift to this system over the next few years!
What exactly are we talking about here? Lumen and Nanite technology in UE5!
Nanite and Lumen are two new technologies introduced in Unreal Engine 5.2 that offer several advantages to game developers.
Nanite is a virtualized geometry system that allows game developers to use film-quality assets with millions of polygons without sacrificing performance. It achieves this by dynamically streaming only the visible portions of the geometry, making it easier to create large, detailed environments without worrying about optimization.
Lumen is a real-time global illumination system that accurately simulates the behavior of light in real-world environments. It allows game developers to create more realistic and dynamic lighting effects without the need for pre-baked lightmaps or other time-consuming techniques.
Together, Nanite and Lumen offer several advantages, including improved graphics quality, faster iteration times, and reduced development costs. With Nanite, developers can create high-fidelity assets without worrying about performance limitations, and with Lumen, they can create dynamic lighting effects that enhance the overall visual experience of the game.
Overall, Nanite and Lumen are powerful tools that enable game developers to create more immersive and visually stunning games while improving their workflow and reducing development time and costs.
So what does all of this mean for Flight Force 4?
Well, quite a few things!
- Increased quality
- Lower system requirements for PC/Laptop allowing more people to access the game
- Faster development of game assets and environments with higher detail
- Another point of difference with other web3 games
- The ability to create a AAA quality game you might expect from a huge multimillion dollar backed game studio with a much smaller team!
As you can will see with the videos below and details in this article, it would be foolish not to implement all of this into FF4. With the only downside here being a short term delay on game progress as we edit and remake all of our assets and environment to utilize these exciting new features!
A very small price to pay that we think will return ten fold in increasing production speed and quality long term as we build out one of the best and most complete shooter games in the space!
Here’s a few amazing links that explain and showcase what we are talking about - I would suggest watching these as it truly show a glimpse into the kind of incredible games including Flight Force 4 that will be built with UE5.2!
